Well, of course the drinks had to be green so we settled on Mojitos – perfect for the warm evening. Hobart may be one step short of Antarctica but we’re the food capital so we fed our guests on Smoked Dover Salmon, Barilla Bay Oysters, Tempura Huon Valley Mushrooms and Spoonfuls of Chicken Jungle Curry – all in the beautiful Henry Jones Hotel which is one of Tasmania’s entrepreneurial landmarks. A century ago it was the hub of the bottling and preserving industry when Tasmanian’s major export was fruit. Now it’s Hobart’s favourite hotel right on the waterfront.
I think our entire team would agree that the journey to being Green Team Australia over the past few months has been enormously inspiring. More than 100 guests who joined our launch agreed. Throughout the evening and in the days that have followed we have all received feedback on what an inspiring story Green Team is and what essential resources we are making available to Australian business. With a new government in Australia focused on climate change our skills also offer both corporates and government a map to navigate sustainability strategies and the changing business landscape.
Our entire team from Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart minus only Markus back in Arizona were with us. Guests came from far and wide including our great supporters from Westpac - Larke Riemer, Westpac’s Head of Women’s Banking and both our Westpac Regional and State Managers. There were valued clients and business leaders, politicians, entrepreneurs, young business leaders from the Tasmanian Leadership program, many friends and family. But of course the star guest was Green Team’s Founder and President Hugh Hough fresh from New York via a whirlwind trip to Sydney. Hugh presented on awakening trends and was, as always, a great presenter. Let’s face it, everyone wants to hug him. Of course he had already made himself famous on local breakfast radio by referring to this old and proud capital city as a ‘fishing village’.
In truth we are rather like a mini Seattle. But we are also Australia’s greenest city and as such the perfect launching pad and home to Green Team Australia.
